New Leaf Academy
New Leaf Academy was the first therapeutic boarding school in the United States to focus specifically on the issues faced by younger girls, ages 10 through 15. The Academy was founded by Craig and Christy Christiansen in Bend, Oregon in 1997.
After working for over 25 years with a broad range of children, adolescents and families, Craig was moved by the number of parents and families that expressed their wish that a true alternative be developed for younger girls, one that could make a real difference before the development of riskier behaviors and involvements. This was the impetus for the creation of New Leaf Academy.
Today, New Leaf Academy remains committed to offering the best in clinical, academic and extra-curricular programs in a small, nurturing setting. We remain family-owned and independent and have been a national leader in the therapeutic boarding school field for over 20 years.
Sometimes, when a girl is overwhelmed by life's demands, her potential can be hard to reach. As peer pressure, social competition, family relationships, hormonal and physical development, media image and academic pressure begin to collide, they can create "the perfect storm" in a young girl's life. The result can be anger, frustration and doubt.
To address these issues – and to provide girls with the support and structure they need to pursue the futures they both desire and deserve – we have established a compassionate community staffed by dedicated professionals who are focused on many aspects of our girls' lives.
