Vista Adolescent Treatment
The average length of a young man's stay at Vista is between 7-10 months, compared to many other residential programs that often keep students for 12-24 months. While we agree that there is some comfort in the idea of a more long-term contained environment, we prefer that students remain in our program for a shorter period of time. An enrollment that is too long can lead to restlessness and complacency in therapy, and this can hinder a young man’s ability to confidently move forward following treatment. Vista utilizes more than 10 hours of direct therapy each week so students can't simply fly under the radar or manipulate their way through the program. This results in faster progress that carries over to where it really matters: the real world.
Each student on campus is part of a supervised peer group that has immediate staff support 24 hours a day. Whether your son is waking up and preparing for classes, having lunch with the group, or enjoying an off-campus recreational activity, he will have supervision and mentoring available through our milieu counselors who also help to maintain a safe and comfortable environment.
Clinical staffing at Vista is substantial. Each of our full-time therapists carries a small caseload of 8-10 students each, an impressive ratio when compared to the larger individual caseloads generally available at other programs. Vista’s full time psychiatrist meets with every student on a bi-weekly basis and actively participates in treatment team meetings to allow for cohesion and team support in decisions regarding medication needs. This high level of clinical support is what enables Vista to go above and beyond industry norms.
Vista’s full-time Transition Coordinator meets with students, their families, and members of the treatment team to help support each student’s departure process – whether they are heading home,
